  • Outstanding Alumnae Chapter Award

At the 2004 Convention in Washington D.C., the San Diego Delta Gamma alumnae chapter was presented with the “Membership Development” Convention Award. We received the same award within our region. We had a tremendous increase in membership in the last biennium! We were also the Runner-Up for the Most Outstanding Web Site Award.

At the 2002 Convention in San Antonio we were the Runner-Up for the Most Outstanding Web Site Award.

At the 2000 Convention in Phoenix, the San Diego Delta Gamma alumnae chapter was presented with the “Best Use of Technology” award within our Province. Our use of this Web site and e-mail messaging contributed to this award.

At the 1998 Convention in Atlanta, the San Diego alumnae took home a Province XVII South award for excellence in collumnae activities. We were awarded this out of 19 alumnae groups in our province.

At the 1996 Convention in St. Louis, the San Diego Delta Gamma alumnae chapter won the Runner-up award for the “Most Outstanding Alumnae Chapter” for groups of our size! This is the most coveted award because it encompasses all of the aspects of the chapter.

International Delta Gamma Awards | 1999 – 2011

Cable Award: 2011 – Jenn Ragusa

The Cable Award is an international individual alumnae award that is given by the Fraternity. The Cable Award recognizes an alumna for personal devotion and continued service to the Fraternity. Each recipient has demonstrated, through years of serving Delta Gamma, unusual loyalty far beyond normal participation. Jenn served the Fraternity as a Collegiate Development Consultant (CDC) for a year after graduating from UC Riverside, then worked as a collegiate advisor, before ultimately serving on Cabinet as a a Region 8 Collegiate Development Specialist (RCS), and then Region 8 Director! All of that and then she returned to the San Diego alumnae chapter ready to dive right in as our vp: programming. Jenn epitomizes what it means to be a Delta Gamma and we are honored to have her as a member of our group and as a leader.

Cable Award: 2010 – Helen Watts

The Cable Award is an international individual alumnae award that is given by the Fraternity. The Cable Award recognizes an alumna for personal devotion and continued service to the Fraternity. Each recipient has demonstrated, through years of serving Delta Gamma, unusual loyalty far beyond normal participation.

Helen has served the San Diego alumnae chapter in the role as vp: finance (for years!), as our Alumnae Assistant Administrator, roster chairman, and in several other support roles over the years. Her dedication to the San Diego alumnae chapter is unending… Any time you need help with a project, you can count on Helen!

Cable Award: 2008 – Megan Powers

The Cable Award is an international individual alumnae award that is given by the Fraternity. The Cable Award recognizes an alumna for personal devotion and continued service to the Fraternity. Each recipient has demonstrated, through years of serving Delta Gamma, unusual loyalty far beyond normal participation.

Because of her continued service to our group serving as Webmaster, recording secretary, awards chairman, Founders Day chairman and committee member, Race for Sight founder and chairman, her years of service to the Epsilon Sigma house corporation, and regionally/internationally as Regional Alumnae Specialist, Regional Director, Web committee member, and Convention committee member, our very own Megan Powers has received this award!

Cable Award: 2005 – Carol Palmer Ertwine

The Cable Award is an international individual alumnae award that is given by the Fraternity. The Cable Award recognizes an alumna for personal devotion and continued service to the Fraternity. Each recipient has demonstrated, through years of serving Delta Gamma, unusual loyalty far beyond normal participation.

Because of her continued service to our group serving as collumnae representative and Founders Day chairman or committee member for YEARS, her years of service to the Epsilon Sigma house corporation, and the community at large, our very own Carol Ertwine has received this award!

Oxford Award: 2004 – Janet (“Jan”) Black LeCren

The Oxford Award recognizes the alumna who exemplifies the Delta Gamma philosophy of service to her community through volunteer and/or professional activities. It honors the alumna who takes pride in her community and who, through the years, devotes her talents to improve the quality of life around her. An Oxford Award recipient brings a sense of pride to her alumnae group through her community efforts and involvement.

Mrs. Jan LeCren, Alpha Tau, Butler—received this international and was “blown away” by the surprise honor at Founders Day! Her constant giving of service hours at the San Diego Center for the Blind, in addition to her other community and chapter involvement, contributed to her deserving this award. She has given so many service hours that our local Service Award was named in her honor. To say that her alumnae group has a sense of “pride” about her would be an understatement!

Cable Award: 2003 – Michele Spencer

This award recognizes an alumna for personal devotion and continued service to the Fraternity. Each recipient has demonstrated, through years of serving Delta Gamma, unusual loyalty far beyond normal participation.

Because of her continued service to our chapter, to the local Panhellenic, her volunteer time at the Braille Institute, and in the community at large, our very own Michele Swope received this award!

Psi Woman Award | 2003 – Barbara Pollem

As a new member, you were selected based on the five points of membership. As an alumna, you have the opportunity to revisit these five points and continue to grow as a Delta Gamma member. More specific categories within each stage assist you in realizing how different areas of your life will be affected and setting reasonable goals. The categories are: occupation, community, spirituality, family, and Delta Gamma. The stated categories in each stage of the Individual Pursuit are intentionally general. This experience is a personal one; the journey is far more important than the destination itself.

Once the process is completed, you will receive Fraternity recognition as a Psi Woman for your accomplishment. Completion of the Individual Pursuit deserves special recognition. The title “Psi Woman” was chosen to honor our three Founders and the other members of our first chapter, Psi. Their quest for continued education outside the classroom and sincere desire for mutual improvement were the inspiration for the Individual Pursuit. When you complete the Individual Pursuit and achieve the status of Psi Woman, you will be recognized in the ANCHORA and at your local Founders Day. While considered a significant achievement within Delta Gamma, the sense of personal accomplishment and growth serve as the greatest incentive and benefit to the Individual Pursuit.

San Diego’s Barbara Pollem was given this award at the Convention in San Antonio and was recognized at the following local Founders Day luncheon. If you see her, be sure to congratulate her on this awesome accomplishment!

Loyalty Award | 1999 – Nancy Taylor Jones

This award bestows an extraordinary honor upon the alumna who exhibits a lifetime of devotion to the Fraternity at the international, regional, or local level. The recipient must first receive the Cable Award, then demonstrate a minimum of ten years of additional service in advancing the Delta Gamma Philosophy.
Our own Nancy Jones won the Delta Gamma Loyalty Award in 1999. She was one of only five Delta Gammas who were awarded it in 1999. After winning the Cable Award in 1978, Nancy never stopped contributing to our group locally and to the Fraternity internationally. She defined what it means to be a Delta Gamma and lived her life daily exemplifying the Delta Gamma philosophy. For more than 50 years, she was active in the San Diego alumnae chapter, along with all of her other community involvement. Nancy also served the Fraternity internationally for years as International Parliamentarian and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
